July 2010

Our guest artiste Calum Maclean was unable to attend our July club night, but rest assured, he has been invited at a later date, so we had a night of local players. Our MC Sandy Maclean welcomed everyone and announced that the tune composing competition was now closed and that there were five entries. He also welcomed visitors in the audience from California and from New Zealand.

Ishbel Crichton started off the night, on accordion, accompanied by Emma Macdonald on second accordion and Uilleam Macleod on drums. Next, Emma gave a solo performance as did Helen Macleod, followed by Angus MacLean and Uilleam, and Tony Corbett played solo. Donnie Leody and his young fiddlers played two sets next, then Craig Macleod, Campbell Maciver and Alex Murdo Macleod, all on accordion accompanied by Anna Fraser on second accordion all played three sets each. A solo spot next from Anna Fraser, then Graham MacLennan, Alex John Macleod, Dol Macdonald, with Anna and Uilleam accompanying all of them. By this time, it as 10.15pm and we decided to have the stramash. There were twelve of them and they had a free reign on the stage, played for 25 minutes, and what a cracking stramash. Fabulous. Anne-Louise Stewart took to the stage and played three sets, then it was the turn of Ishbel, Emma and Uilleam again, followed by Alex Murdo and Emma, and the last set of the night was Anna Fraser and Uilleam on drums. There was a smaller audience tonight, but thanks to our local players, most of them played three sets, a great selection of tunes, and the music flowed all night. Thank you all for your support.

Our guest artiste for August is the Charlie Kirkpatrick Trio.
