February 2009
Our club Chairman Duncan Gordon opened our February club night as usual with a warm welcome to everybody. Our first local player on stage was Ishbel Crichton on accordion, accompanied by Duncan on second accordion and Uilleam Macleod on drums, this was a great start to the night. Gillian Johnson was next with an excellent rendition on fiddle. Tony Corbett, Angus Maclean, Craig Macleod and David Bowen, all on accordion took us up to the guest artiste spot.
The Woodlands Ceilidh Band took to the stage, comprising Dol Macdonald, Murdo Macdonald, George Macleod all playing 2 row button melodeon, and Donnie Macdonald on guitar.
The first set played was two well known tunes, The Shores of Loch Bee and Walter Douglas MBE, well, we just knew we were in for a good night and we were not disappointed. 2/4 marches, slow air, jigs, 6/8marches, gaelic waltzes, and reels followed. This was an excellent presentation to a delighted audience.
After the stramash, it was back to our local players, on accordion were: Emma Macdonald, Alex John Macleod, Krisell Macdonald, Ian Angus Macleod, Nicola Morrison, Stuart Taylor and Anne Louise Stewart. On keyboards was Violet Morrison and on drums Uilleam Macleod.
Guest artiste time again, starting with 6/8 marches, then 2/4 marches, a waltz reels, jigs, a slow air followed by a set of 2/4 marches, the tunes were Donald Mackay of Upper Barvas and Sir Jimmy Shand’s Compliments to Sir Kenneth Alexander. This was first class entertainment, superb arrangements and they had the audience in the palm of their hands.
Cheers, boys. Thank you also to all our local players who came along.
